IT IS HERE! Invasion is this coming weekend! If you have signed up to participate, you will be receiving a letter in the mail sometime early in the week with specific instructions and an itinerary. Please read it carefully. If you have not received your letter by Wednesday, let me know immediately. If you have not made your final payment, please do so by Wednesday. Finally, everyone must have both a completed Medical Release and Media Release Form on file. Additionally, if you plan to drive DURING the event, you must have a Vehicle Use Form on file. Please take care of this Sunday or Wednesday prior to the Dessert Dinner on Thursday evening (7:00).

Please begin praying now that this will be the best Invasion ever and that the Holy Spirit will move in mighty ways among us this weekend.

She is an internationally acclaimed fashion model, and she has written a book entitled, Fashioned by Faith. She is awesome! In last month alone, she has been featured on both C.B.S. This Morning (TV) and W.M.I.T. in Asheville (radio). Her book and message is for GUYS just as much as it is for GIRLS. In fact, her book has one chapter devoted to girls, and the next one to guys. It’s going to be hard for her to talk to guys if the guys are not there! GET YOUR TICKETS TODAY BEFORE THEY SELL OUT! They are $10 each, and you may purchase them from the girls and from the Coffee Shop, or from any of the Student Center Reception Desks. Tickets go on sale to youth groups outside our church this week, so this might be your last chance!

Laura Story is coming to E.B.C. on May 25! This concert is expected to sell out and sell out quickly. Tickets go on sale March 25, but I have a few to pre-sell at the Student Ministries reception desks and at the coffee shop. You may want to get yours A.S.A.P.

Friends and Family Night, one of our three major fund raisers for summer missions, will be held next Saturday, February 25. If your parents missed the meeting this morning, please make sure to see me to get your assignment for working next weekend. Also, your tickets were due along with the money this morning. If you didn’t turn them in, please do so sometime today so that we can have an accurate head count for the barbecue. It will be a great event!

Someone asked me earlier if it was okay to contribute $100 rather than selling the tickets. That is certainly fine. Just let me know that you are contributing money along rather than for tickets sold so that we won’t prepare for people who will not show up to eat.

We must raise almost $8,000.00 to break even on the two mission trips this summer. Next year’s trip will likely be even more expensive, and we need to raise a little of that money through the fund raisers this year. We have 50 signed up to participate this summer, and that is an increase over last year. So…PLEASE HELP US ANY WAY YOU CAN!

Today marks a milestone of sorts. Beginning today, CREWLINES will be much SHORTER. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will begin a transition to PODCASTING CREWLINES and uploading the podcast to the website. We also plan to begin showing it on Sunday mornings. YOU FINALLY HAVE A DAY OFF TOMORROW! Since I know you love to be together, even if bonding requires getting up slightly early, we will have a workday! Please sign up if you can come, and we’ll meet at 9:00 in the new student center. Some will be building a wall and mounting windows. Others will be moving food into the new food bank area; girls will be cleaning out the GEMS space; Others will be transporting the coffee shop booths over from the gym and moving around other items that are either in the way or that will be sold at auction soon. 2012.01.08 - Crew Quarters

Men’s High School Basketball Practice will resume Sunday afternoon, January 15 from 2:30-4:00 since there is no game this week.

THE NEW “C.R.E.W. MINISTRIES RECEPTION/information CENTER” will ultimately become the “gateway” into “The C.R.E.W. Quarters”that is currently under construction. It will officially open next Sunday morning, January 15 and will be the place where visitors with youth will come when they first arrive at the church and where parents will stop by to make payments, gather information, and complete necessary forms. All of the transactions that have been handled in the Youth House will occur in the Reception/Information Center beginning next Sunday. The right side of the center is for the Student Ministry, and the left side is for the Children’s Ministry. Watch this area as it grows and evolves in the coming months! It will he exciting. There will be a team of Student Ministry Receptionists, and the Reception Center Coordinator is Linda Hoppes.

2012.01.01 - Happy New Year

Of Note Regarding Winter Jam…

We are going to have to reschedule the trip to the Winter Jam concert and try to go to the one in February at the Bi-lo Center in Greenville, SC like we did last year. It is on a Friday night rather than Sunday, and coming back in on a school night at 1:00 a.m. is never a good thing for parents or the youth minister who planned it. This schedule change is also necessary because of some conflicts with other events at EBC and the need to devote time and energy this month to the student center renovation so that we can be moved in within about six weeks.

IMPORTANT CELL PHONE ANNOUNCEMENT!

I now have a second cell phone that I will begin using for church business in the coming months. Although my personal phone number will still be in operation, my newer phone has features that the older one doesn’t, so I will begin using it more and more. Please put the new number in your phone alongside the older one so that your phone will recognize who is calling or texting. You can reach me on either phone for now, though. Christmas Open House in the Youth House: Just like last year, we will host the church family after the Adult Choir Christmas Musical next Sunday evening. We will turn on the lights and straighten up the decorations for all to see. BUT…we want our guests to have something to eat. Please sign up today on the list in the Youth House if you would be willing to bring something to eat or drink. We need soft drinks, hot mulled cider and cocoa, and items that would be considered “pick-up” foods (things that people can pick up with their fingers and eat). Cookies, sausage balls, chips and dip, little sandwich squares, etc. would work great. Roasted Pheasant served with curried cream sauce and braised artichoke hearts might be a little heavy for the occasion. Feel free to volunteer your mom, dad, or grandparent to bring your favorite item. Cathy Miller is in charge of coordinating the food, so when you sign up, she will be able to use your list to contact those you suggest.

If you are interested in playing on the high school men’s basketball team, sign-ups begin this morning. Please take a packet with you, complete it, and return it to one of your coaches (Mark Beam and Dennis Jaynes). If you cannot find one of them, just give it to me. The team is open to students in grades 9-12. If you were 19 years of age prior to or on October 31, 2011, you are ineligible to play. Please read the rules in the packet carefully. Back-to-back

This past week at 180 we introduced a ministry called “Back-To-back.” It is a concept that we decided to carry over from our experiences at Caswell this past summer, and it is an opportunity for you to “do life together” as accountability partners. We briefly explained the program on Wednesday, but there are handouts explaining how it works and commitment cards in the Youth house. Some have asked if you can have more than one other partner. Yes, you can as long as you can agree upon when to meet and where. You will still need one person, though, that you can connect with should the need arise. In the case of a crisis, you do not want to have to call a group meeting. Others have asked if you can have male/female partners. And that depends. There are some issues that you would maybe prefer to share with a person of the same sex. Also, you might avoid your best friend as a partner unless your best friend can be mean enough to get you back on track should you wander off from it. You don’t want to have a gullible friend you also lead astray. Please call me if you have any questions or concerns.

Life Below the Surface…a challenging journey into the mysteries of the deep.

This is our new theme for Fall and Winter, 2011-12! My goal was to create a theme that would reflect the hope that I have for your continued spiritual growth throughout this next school year. As we take the lessons of the summer and the passion we now have for Christ and apply it to our lives, our focus needs to be upon living deep. Once we have gone deep with Christ, the challenge is to stay there in our daily living. You will see this reflected in the various shifts our ministry will make over the coming months to make sure that you are able sustain a life lived in the depths with Christ.

Remember, I would like to have a paragraph from each of you indicating how God has been working in your life recently. I have some lined paper for you to use when writing your responses. Please take the time to write these carefully. This is your testimony…your witness…a chance to share your story. Please give these to me as you finish them. I will be using these in various publications and sharing them in a video format in the coming weeks and months

I will be on vacation this afternoon through Friday, so stay safe and well. Drive carefully, but only if you have a license. Be kind to your parents, siblings, and pets. Read your Bible every day, and eat your vegetables. Don’t get into any trouble. Do not do anything stupid. If you can’t decided whether or not something is stupid, ask someone who doesn’t often do stupid things. I expect to come home to as many students as I left.

Potato Project Weed Eradication Project

In case you have been wondering what has happened to the field of sweet potatoes that you planted earlier in the summer, I just wanted you to know that they were growing rapidly…and so are the weeds. So that the potatoes are not choked out by the weeds, there will be a “mass weeding” tomorrow afternoon at 5:00. Please meet at the church at 5:00, and bring a hoe if you have one and some gloves. This will be a great opportunity to relieve stress and remove frustrations.

Puerto Rico…What a success!

You are the most awesome youth group/college career group in the world! Thanks for being open to the Lord and making our mission trip one of the spiritual highlights of my life. Puerto Rico…WE LEAVE TOMORROW!

Can you believe it’s already here? Here are some last minute updates: There are 40 of us going. Names of participants have been printed and are located in the sanctuary beside the CREWLINES. If you are a parent or interested adult and would not mind praying for us, please pick up a copy, and pray for each participant this week that God may use us to His glory. Any participants who want to caravan with us, please be in the Student Center parking lot tomorrow morning at 6:30. Pastor Rit will be there to have prayer with us prior to our departure. We will travel to the airport together. We need to be there by 7:30, and are scheduled to depart on US Airways Flight 1032 at 9:50. Our return flight is US Airways Flight 1035, and it is scheduled to arrive in Charlotte at 8:30 p.m. on the evening of June 26. Parents, please plan to go with us to the airport in the morning if at all possible and stay with your son or daughter until we reach the security checkpoint. The first maybe annual outdoor FILM FEST will be on Tuesday night, July 12 at 9:00 p.m. here at EBC. Why am I telling you this now? So you can begin making your own movie to share. If enough people are interested, we will have feature short films made by our own students. Get creative. You can be in more than one…but you have to come up with your own ideas and make your own videos. Keep them secret. Keep them clean. The Youth House will soon have a sign out front so that visitors will know that this is the place where you guys meet instead of thinking that it is a residence with cheesy folding chairs on the porch. It will have the S@E emblem on it and identify the house as theStudent Center. I realize that there was some disagreement earlier in the year as to what to call the place, and it was decided to continue calling it the Youth House. You may still do that. Neither I nor the new sign will be offended. We do need to upgrade from the cheesy chairs, though.

Happy Easter From The C.R.E.W.!

I hope all of you had a restful and relaxing spring break. It’s only a short while now until summer/and I can’t wait!

As most of you likely know by now, theschedule for today, Easter Sunday, is a little different. There are no evening activities for students tonight. We had East to West practice this past Tuesday afternoon to make up for tonight. We will resume next Sunday afternoon at 4:30. There will be no Softball practice this afternoon either. The Guys and Acteens willresume their regular meetings next Sunday evening.

Welcome to Invasion Sunday! Wow, what a weekend! This has been one of the most exciting weekends

I can remember. Thanks to so many people for making this an event to remember. From the Host

Families to the Bible Study Leaders to the Recreation Staff to the Kitchen Crew to the Curtis Band and

Nathan Smith…thanks to all whose hard work, prayer, and dedication has made this weekend such a

success. Most of all, however, we need to thank God for coming among us and sharing in those
